Adams - could he fill Mackay's shoes?
Sussex chief executive Gus Mackay has agreed a deal to become Surrey's new managing director.
Mackay, a former Zimbabwe player who started his off-field career at Leicestershire in 2003, will head up Surrey's cricketing operation from grass roots to first team.
Sussex have been the dominant first-class county in recent years but Mackay is excited by the challenge awaiting him at Surrey, who are on the verge of relegation from Division One of the LV County Championship.
Mackay said: "Whilst I have thoroughly enjoyed my two years at Sussex where I have been involved in two County Championship wins and the C&G Trophy, the opportunity to be involved with Surrey was an opportunity I could not refuse.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for me to work at Surrey in this new and exciting role.
"Hopefully the experiences that I have gained over the years both on and off the field will stand me in good stead to meet the demands of the job. It's a great time to be involved in the game and this role clearly demonstrates Surrey's intentions.
"It is important that all aspects of Surrey cricket, which include the professional and recreational game, work towards achieving successful sides at all levels."
Mackay's decision to head for The Oval is likely to lead to an interesting time for Sussex skipper Chris Adams.
The former England man has been linked with an administrative role at Hove - meaning he could replace Mackay as the county's chief executive - but there have also been reports that the veteran batsman could join him with the Brown Caps or even take up a position at Hampshire.
