Chesterfield Clash A Washout

Chesterfield Clash A Washout

Mum Nature - not playing the game.

The fifth and final women's one-day international between England and South Africa at Chesterfield was rained off without a ball being bowled.

That denied England the chance of a 5-0 whitewash in the NatWest Series.

The fourth ODI last week saw Charlotte Edwards and Claire Taylor shared an unbeaten stand of 101 to guide England to a six-wicket victory over at Shenley.

Alicia Smith had top-scored for the visitors with 68 as South Africa were bowled out for 158 with Isa Guha, Lynsey Askew and Laura Marsh each taking two wickets.

England initially made an assured response but after Beth Morgan was out with the score on 40, the hosts lost a further three wickets for 18 runs to be reduced to 58 for four.

However, Edwards and Taylor steadied proceedings and guided England to victory to be unbeaten on 58 and 37 respectively.

Ashlyn Kilowan was the most potent of South Africa's bowlers finishing with figures of three for 19.
