Gayle - not happy at the helm.
Chris Gayle's future as captain of West Indies has been thrown into doubt by the head of the country's cricket board.
West Indies Cricket Board chief executive officer Dr Donald Peters revealed Gayle is set to give up the captaincy after just 15 Test and one-day international matches.
Dr Peters told The Trinidad and Tobago Express: "I am aware he is considering not making himself available for the captaincy."
He added, however, that the 28-year-old opener had not provided any "official correspondence" on the matter.
Gayle has won just five matches since taking over as skipper from Ramnaresh Sarwan in November last year.
He led the Windies on competitive tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa but came unstuck in the recent home series against Australia, when the tourists won seven of eight Test and one-day encounters.
Gayle grew increasingly frustrated as the Windies stumbled to a 5-0 series whitewash in the one-dayers against Ricky Ponting's men, and openly questioned his side's selection policy.
He said at the time: "We can't continue like this - it doesn't look good.
"The outfield cricket doesn't look good as well; we really need to pull our socks up.
"The majority of the time we discuss about selection and sometimes I get something totally different. It's difficult on my side."
