Bermuda Edge Out Canada

Bagai - Solid Fifty.

Bermuda got off to a winning start to their ODI series against Canada, defeating the Canadians by three wickets in a rain reduced clash at the Maple Leaf North-West Ground, King City.

The game was reduced to 36 overs a side after rain delayed the start of the clash. Canadian captain Zubin Surkari won the toss and decided to bat first.

Ashish Bagai scored a watchful half century for the Canadians, but the men from the north were there own worst enemies, with a combination of run outs and slow scoring hindering their ability to post a competitive total. In the middle overs top scorer Bagai and Ian Billcliff scored only 27 runs in 9 overs, resulting in the final total falling short of what they would have desired.

In reply debutant Chris Foggo set the tone for Bermuda, scoring an impressive 60 at the top of the order. But as with the Canadian innings the scoring was slow, and it was only thanks to a quick fire 21 run cameo from captain Irving Romaine that Bermuda were in with a chance. Coming in at number seven, Jakon Edness needed to hit nine off the final over to secure victory. The tail ender obliged, hammering a four and a six off consecutive deliveries to seal victory for the visitors.
